NETVIEWER REMOTE DESKTOP CONTROL

Netviewer is a tool that revolutionises our ability to provide high quality remote support to our clients wherever they are on the planet.


What Is Netviewer?

Netviewer is a superb piece of software that uses the power of the internet to give us the virtual ability to be “sitting right by your side”, seeing what you are seeing and working with you on your PC within about 3 minutes.

System 3 was one of the very first companies in the UK to put this powerful new technology into action for the benefit of its clients.

Now, rather than trying to explain over the phone what your question or problem is, you can simply show us, so we can see for ourselves. If you give us permission we can even take remote control of your PC and guide you through the problems just as if we were sitting right there with you.

You may be familiar with a product called PC Anywhere, which can do something similar to the above and wondering why we are making a fuss about Netviewer - well there are some very important differences that make Netviewer far superior and much quicker and easier to use.

It uses the Internet as the connection medium, there is no direct phone call made between the sites. This means we can provide Netviewer to any PC on your network - as long as it has Internet access. You don’t need a phone line and modem for each PC, and we can even support you when you are away from the office - even abroad. We have already successfully tested the system with remote users in the USA & Australia.

There is absolutely no configuration required whatsoever. When you want Netviewer you simply visit our web site, access the Netviewer area, and open a small file. Then enter a security code our support team member will give you and almost immediately we’ll be connected. Importantly this program makes absolutely no changes to your PC configuration whatsoever, but if you prefer you can save the program to your local hard disk and create a shortcut to it.

It’s firewall transparent; as long as you can browse the web then you can use this solution. There is no complicated re-configuration of firewall’s required to allow it to work.

The application works both ways - i.e. Initially when the sessions starts we are in the “Show Mode” and you are in “View Mode”, so you see what’s on our screen, then if required you simply press the “show” button and confirm you want to transmit your screen to us and we become the viewer and see what’s on your screen. We can switch back and forth between the two at any time during the session. If required either side can also grant or withdraw remote control permission to the other with a single key press. This means not only can we use Netviewer to provide technical support, we can also use the system to provide training to you or to demonstrate other applications. * See Note.

What’s In It For Me?

Reduction in travelling expenses
This tool allows us to do much more on-line, and so reduces (but not eliminate) the number of occasions where we need to make site visits to assist / fix problems.

Much faster response
Travelling time is eliminated if we can use Netviewer rather than attending on site. If an engineer is available we can be “by your side” in about 3 minutes whether you are based in King’s Lynn, Camberley or Sydney.

Quicker fixes
Because we can see what you are seeing, there is less confusion so we are able to fix the problems much faster. And because you can view what we are doing to help, you’ll probably pick up some tips on how to help yourself the next time you get a similar problem.

Is it secure?
Yes very. No one can see your screen or take control of your system unless you take some very deliberate action. Firstly you have to run the software and enter the security code, (which changes every time) then you have to press the button to “Show” your system and then you have to Press F12 or press the remote button to give the other party remote control. By Default the other party does not see your desktop or Task bar so they cannot switch between applications or start new ones unless you want to give them permission to do so. And you can block certain applications from view - e.g., you can give the remote user permission to see Word and Internet Explorer but not Outlook. Finally all data transmitted between the systems is security encoded.

What does it cost?
Although we have had to invest a considerable amount in licensing the software from the authors, at this time we have taken the decision to provide the Netviewer service as a Free of Charge upgrade to all clients who have a valid Arrow or Network support contract.

* Please note that where Netviewer is used to provide on-line training rather than technical support standard hourly/daily rates will apply.

What do I have to do do be able to use this service?
Just make sure that any PC that you want to benefit from Netviewer has access to the Internet (note you do not have to give users full access to the internet - ask for details). If during a support call the engineer believes it would be beneficial to use the Netviewer system they will ask you to go to our web site and start the software, or click on an icon if it is saved on your PC.

How fast is it?
The better your connection is to the Internet, the faster it will work. Preferably you should have an ADSL broadband Internet connection, or at least ISDN, but it will work with dial up modems, however it can be very slow when used on screens with lots of graphics and colours. If you can get ADSL and are not currently using it we can help you select the right provider and set this up for you - it’s well worth it for lots of reasons.
